On what initially was predicted to be a month dominated by Joker, another masked persona is taking the lead at the box office. Terrifier 3 exceeded expectations with an $18.3 million debut.
This come from behind win was no longer impossible after Joker: Folie à Deux gave a disappointing debut. However, it was just due to that. Its predecessor slowly had a cult following which is ripe for a box office success. Think of John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum or High School Musical 3 but on a smaller scale.

Walk up business was 55% for this film according to PostTrak and audiences gave it a decent B cinemascore. Critics were fine with it too with 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Wild Robot continued its leggy run with only a 29 percent drop this weekend, adding $13.5 million. With a three-week total of $84 million, a final number north of $100 million is no longer in question. If it really does play it cards well until next year's Academy Awards, hitting $150 million can be achievable.
Warner Bros. fall hit Beetlejuice Beetlejuice collected $7 million this weekend for a six week total of $275 million. Too bad that its revenue for the studio could just be eaten by this week's fourth placer.
Joker: Folie à Deux took a heavy tumble on its second weekend with $7 million (down 81%). That's the steepest drop for a DC movie ever which already had terrible runs in the past such as The Flash. In two weeks, the musical thriller has only banked over $51 million. The hope now is that it could minimize the loss it will bring to the studio. Last year, The Marvels resulted in a $200 million loss for Disney after grossing $213 million worldwide against its $200 million budget.
Transformers One also continued to enjoy healthy drops amid an unexpectedly weaker marketplace. The animation film grossed $3.6 million this weekend for a total of a $53 million.
Other openers this weekend include Piece by Piece ($3.8 million), expansion of Saturday Night ($3.4 million), My Hero Academia: You’re Next ($3 million), re-release of Nightmare Before Christmas ($2.3 million), and The Apprentice ($1.6 million).
The Substance also only experienced a strong 16 percent drop this weekend with $1.1 million for a total of $11.7 million.
