The animated feature opened to an estimated ₱12 million ($209K) across 216 locations, according to Box Office Mojo. Universal Pictures Philippines confirmed that it was the #1 movie in the country during its opening week, passing Joker: Folie à Deux. As an original movie, its opening falls between the debuts of other animated features: Migration ($84K), Elemental ($554K), and Wish ($369K). It is also slightly below the recent release Transformers One, which saw a $430K opening.
Note that original animated films have rarely had spectacular debut numbers in the country, with a few exceptions. For instance, DreamWorks' last original feature, The Bad Guys, only collected around $68K in 2022 when cinemas were just beginning to recover.
The goal for The Wild Robot is to maintain steady box office performance throughout October, as competition appears to be weak. This coming week sees the openings of Smile 2, Balota and Guilty Pleasure, which are all targeting different audiences.
