'Materialists' jumps to #1 on Netflix PH; 'The Kingdom,' 'And The Breadwinner Is...,' and 'Sunshine' continue to place

Romance is in the air for Netflix subscribers, even if it’s still only January, with two different types of the genre leading the charts right now.

Celine Song's romantic drama Materialists jumped to the top spot this tracking week (January 5-11, 2026) on the streaming service. The Dakota Johnson-led film opened last week in second place, behind fellow newcomer The Kingdom. In the film, a young and ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between a seemingly perfect match and her imperfect ex-boyfriend.

Speaking of The Kingdom, the action-adventure film starring Vic Sotto and Piolo Pascual merely switched places with Materialists this week on the chart. Meanwhile, local films And The Breadwinner Is… and Sunshine continue to hold spots on the chart, placing eighth and tenth, respectively. This is a particularly strong showing for Sunshine, which was recently included in Letterboxd’s top lists for 2025.
