Netflix Engagement Report (Second Half of 2025): 'Kontrabida Academy,' KimPau, 'Sunshine,' & horror top Filipino titles

Netflix has released its engagement report for the second half of 2025, and some Filipino titles in familiar genres made strong showings on the popular platform.

In the movie section, Netflix original film Kontrabida Academy led the pack with 4.8 million views (8.8 million hours viewed). The Chris Martinez-directed comedy starring Barbie Forteza and Eugene Domingo opened to 1.5 million global views last September. In the film, a restaurant worker finds a new purpose and a way to get back at her enemies after a mysterious TV transports her to a school for on-screen villains.

Local dramas also tend to perform surprisingly well on the service. During this tracking period, the Baron Geisler–led action drama The Delivery Rider earned that distinction, garnering over 3.9 million views.

The theatrical hit My Love Will Make You Disappear also made a strong showing on the platform. The romance film starring Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino was viewed 3.6 million times since it premiered on the service last July. Another Star Cinema 2025 release, Only We Know, also made the list, with over 2.2 million views.

Horror remains a hot genre among local subscribers, with The Time That Remains (2.8 million views), Untold (2.5 million), Isolated (2.3 million), and Lilim (2.2 million) all performing well. Meanwhile, the hit local horror film Outside continued to gain a substantial number of views, collecting over 1.6 million during the second half of 2025.

Indie films also made strong showings this time around. Antoinette Jadaone’s buzzy film Sunshine earned 2.5 million views in just over a month since debuting on the service last November 26. The Maris Racal–led drama has won the Crystal Bear Award for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Ice Idanan’s 2016 film Sakaling Hindi Makarating also received a warm response from Netflix subscribers, with 700,000 views. Meanwhile, the Kaye Abad–led comedy Con Mom surprised with 1.6 million views.

Among first-half openers, Jun Lana’s dramedy And the Breadwinner Is…, starring Vice Ganda, continued to impress, garnering an additional 2.0 million views. Overall, similar to the theatrical market, what’s missing is one or two huge local hits on the service. During the second half of 2024, Netflix scored two strong hits with Outside (16 million) and Lolo and the Kid (17.4 million).
