Meta 'Strange Frequencies' is a Damn Good Time at the Cinema | Movie Review

A team of adventurous celebrities filming in Taiwan’s infamous Xinglin Hospital, one of Southeast Asia’s most haunted locations, quickly descends into terror as they encounter escalating paranormal phenomena. As tensions rise and personalities clash, they become pawns of a malevolent entity, forcing them to make difficult choices and sacrifices to survive the horrifying ordeal.

Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital

It's basically an "f around and find out" movie, and the concept is not entirely a new gimmick. However, Taiwan Killer Hospital is a great time in a crowd because the film actually knows how to scare. It understands that building dread is important to fully sell the horror. That's crucial and should work even if the story doesn't all add up.

The meta aspect of the film adds flavor to it as well. It minimizes the need to get to know the characters, which sometimes kills the mood in a horror film when done poorly. It also raises the stakes, as the choice matches the hook of the film. Jane De Leon and Alexa Miro are notable highlights among the solid cast, and Raf Pineda is actually fun too.

Strange Frequencies is a well-made horror flick that's perfect for the horror crowd or those who just want to scream with their friends. 3/5 ⭐

Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital is now playing in cinemas.
