Film of the Year: 'Green Bones' is simply good | Movie Review

A soon-to-be released criminal and a corrections officer is still grieving over the death of his sister opposing the prisoner’s release.

Perhaps it gets too dramatic with the music, but those can be brushed off for a film as good as Green Bones. This latest collaboration from Zig Dulay & Angeli Atienza, this time with National Artist Ricky Lee, is phenomenal.

There's something always warm about their projects—there’s a trust in humanity. While it's not shy of some dark realities such as police brutality and corruption, there's always hope that goodness will prevail in some way.

It didn't hurt either that the cast, led by Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, did excellent work here. The structure also elevates the film's simple yet powerful narrative. The visuals, particularly the tree, add significant value too. Lastly, I'm personally fine with the music scoring.

There's nothing more to say except: Green Bones is my Filipino film of the year. 4.5/5 ⭐

Green Bones is now playing in cinemas.
