'Toy Story 5,' 'Home Along Da Riles' Post Strong Second Week Holds; 'Brand New Day' Presales Soar

They say a film's second-week performance is just as important as its opening week, and lastt week's two openers passed that test with flying colors.

Riles and Toy Story 5

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 held on to the top spot for a second week, grossing $1.246 million (est. ₱76 million) from June 24-28. That represents a very solid 41% drop, considering it opened to more than ₱100 million last week.

With $3.688 million (est. ₱226 million) collected in two weeks, Disney has officially reported that the film is now the highest-grossing Toy Story movie in the country, surpassing Toy Story 4, which earned $4.3 million (est. ₱219 million at 2019 exchange rates). It is also now the highest-grossing international title in the country this year, beating The Devil Wears Prada 2. Jessie and the gang can likely enjoy holding that title until Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives next month.

The party also continues in the Cosme neighborhood as Home Along Da Riles: Da Reunion collected another ₱20 million from June 22–28. That's not far behind its ₱35 million opening-week gross, suggesting strong word-of-mouth among moviegoers. After two weeks, the film has now earned ₱55 million locally.

Both films are expected to see significant drops in the coming week with the arrival of Minions & Monsters and Leviticus, which are expected to take a substantial number of screens. However, make no mistake—both films should still be able to rake in a few more million pesos in the weeks ahead.

There are still no reports for Supergirl, which experienced a slump as it neared the end of its opening week globally. Meanwhile, Backrooms added $2,650 this week for a four-week total of $780,820 (₱48 million).

In pre-sales news, with tickets now on sale, fans of Christopher Nolan have already snapped up some of the best seats at IMAX Mall of Asia for The Odyssey. And Spider-Man? No IMAX, no problem. With one month still to go before release, pre-sales are already through the roof. Brand New Day is now more likely than not to set a new opening-week record for the local box office this year.
