'Obsession' Goes Wide in PH, Jumps 97% to ₱31M; 'Disclosure Day' Abducts ₱16M

When it comes to horror, never doubt Filipinos' willingness to show up for buzzy titles in the genre. Now playing nationwide, Obsession saw a massive jump in its third week in the country. Meanwhile, Spielberg returns with solid results for an original film.

The Curry Barker-directed horror surged 97 percent from its second week during its first full week of wide release (June 10–14), grossing an estimated $522K (₱31.6 million). After two weeks as an Ayala Malls Cinemas exclusive, Universal Pictures expanded the buzzy title nationwide on June 8. In three weeks, the film has already collected $1.275 million (est. ₱77 million), surpassing the lifetime grosses of M3GAN and Weapons in the country.

Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day opened this week in the Philippines with an estimated $265K (₱16 million). That's a solid result for an original film in the market. It also marks the biggest opening for a Josh O'Connor-led film, surpassing the likes of Challengers and The History of Sound. However, with a very crowded marketplace, the film will have to fight hard to retain a significant number of its screens.

Meanwhile, Box Office Mojo has reported the first-week figures for Kane Parsons' Backrooms. The Creazion-distributed horror opened to $433,809 (est. ₱26.3 million) during the week of June 3–7, 2026, with an actual total listed at $522,905 (est. ₱31.7 million). It's clear that Filipinos were aware of the buzzy title and turned out in droves for the horror film. Demand was so strong that exhibitors continued adding locations through its opening weekend (films typically open on Wednesdays in the Philippines).

Next week sees the opening of Toy Story 5 and Home Along Da Riles: Da Reunion. The Disney and Pixar film is expected to do huge business across the country, while Riles is positioning itself to attract fans of the original series during the Father's Day weekend.
