Science teacher Ryland Grace wakes up alone on a spaceship light-years from Earth. As his memory returns, he uncovers a mission to stop a mysterious substance killing the sun, and save Earth. An unexpected friendship may be the key.
As always, science can be very tricky to translate onto the big screen. Worry not, because not only does Project Hail Mary have just the right amount of science to move the story along, but the film also knocks it out of the park in delivering a thrilling yet heartfelt adventure.
It really helps that the film has a comedic aspect that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller know how to inject effectively. When the survival of various races is at stake, a little comedy can’t hurt—but it has to be done right. “Right” can be subjective, but Project Hail Mary is certainly funny.
Fortunately, these elements help distract the audience from diving too deeply into the film’s "flaws," as one may notice some familiar beats and safe choices.

Ryan Gosling sells the hell out of this one, given that he’s on screen most of the time. It’s further proof of his magnetism as a star. He’s really great here—particularly in the scenes with Rocky. Despite her short screen time, Sandra Hüller also makes the most of her role.
Project Hail Mary is a fun, cinematic adventure with a strong heart. It believes in what we can achieve together. Leaving the cinema with a smile is always a good thing. Happy. Happy. Happy. 4/5 ⭐
