‘For Good’ soars to $2.7M PH opening; 'Meet, Greet & Bye' claims 2025’s No. 1 Filipino film spot

The good times at the Philippine box office continue. This time, it was Universal’s turn to shine, with Jon M. Chu’s Wicked: For Good delivering a $2.7 million (est. ₱163 million) opening.

The opening figure is a substantial 50 percent increase from its predecessor last year, which debuted to $1.8 million but legged out impressively to a $5.69 million final total. Becoming the studio’s biggest opening since 2018, Universal should be very pleased with this jump, as more fans may have rushed to see the film immediately this time around. However, it will be interesting to see whether the film can leg out as well, given how crowded December 2025 is shaping up to be with the releases of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Avatar: Fire & Ash.

The film was unsurprisingly given blockbuster treatment in the country, with various cinema chains designing their malls with Wicked-themed installations. A huge castle activation was set up at SM Mall of Asia and was followed by a drone show during the launch.

Ayala Malls Cinemas, Robinsons Movieworld, SM Cinema, and Gateway also held special screenings to drum up further excitement. SM Cinema additionally timed the opening of the country’s first-ever ScreenX with For Good and experienced solid sales throughout the week.

Star Cinema’s Meet, Greet, & Bye continued to chug along as well. The Cathy Garcia-Sampana family drama has already surpassed My Love Will Make You Disappear (₱172 million) to become the top-grossing Filipino film of the year. As of November 21, the film has grossed ₱175 million globally and should see a substantial boost from its second-weekend numbers.

Next week brings the opening of Disney’s Zootopia 2. While its predecessor wasn’t exactly a major hit in the country ($1 million total), goodwill and nostalgia should give it a strong opening week, allowing it to compete with For Good for the top spot.
