'Weapons' tops PH box office as 'Fantastic Four' falters

Among the flood of new releases during the week of August 6-10, 2025, Weapons emerged victorious.

The Zach Cregger-directed horror is the number one movie in the Philippines, according to Warner Bros. Unfortunately, the studio has not released official figures yet to back this claim It wouldn't be surprising, however, as the horror pic did strong sales in regular format and IMAX. This bodes well for The Conjuring: Last Rites, which had its trailer shown in front of the film.

Meanwhile, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has now begun matching the steep drops it has been experiencing in North America. The superhero film grossed $408K (est. ₱22.9 million) during the week, down 59% from its second week. On a brighter note, the film ($3.8 million) has now surpassed the total grosses of Jurassic World Rebirth and How To Train Your Dragon, and is already the top-grossing Marvel release of the year.

Despite bringing supporting star Manny Jacinto in the country, Freakier Friday had only a modest debut. The legacy sequel opened to $131K (est. ₱7.3 million) last week. This may be attributed to an overestimation of the IP's current popularity. It's been a while as well since Disney had a proper live-action family comedy. Nevertheless, the opening is still a positive sign, as this is clearly money they were leaving on the table by sending some films directly to Disney+.

In close pursuit, Columbia-distributed A24 pic Materialists opened to $97K (est. ₱5.4 million) in the country. Not too shabby for a film that's already available to rent digitally in America, meaning a clear version is likely circulating on piracy sites.

Jurassic World Rebirth continues to chug along, grossing $32K (₱1.8 million) during its sixth week. The Gareth Edwards-directed film has now made $3.65 million in the country, making it the lowest-grossing entry in the Jurassic World franchise, which has seen diminishing returns, likely due to declining quality in its recent installments.
