'Weapons' and 'Fantastic Four' hold steady at PH box office

Following its strong U.S. run, Weapons also saw an outstanding second week in the Philippines (August 13-17, 2025). The Zach Cregger-directed horror only dropped 23 percent from its opening week, suggesting impressive word-of-mouth in the country. Unfortunately, no official box office figures have been released, but a source estimates the buzzy flick has made over ₱50 million.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps also enjoyed a better drop this week. The Marvel superhero film made $213K (est. ₱12 million) on its third week, down a solid 48 percent, according to Box Office Mojo. In four weeks, the film has already collected $4,142,222 (est. ₱236 million) in the country. If it continues to hold well, First Steps can surpass Lilo & Stitch ($4,326,846) as Disney's biggest release here for the year.

The same can't be said for Freakier Friday, as the film lost a handful of screens during its second week. The legacy sequel earned $56,611 (est. ₱3.2 million) this week, down 57 percent, for a two-week total of $206,871 (est. ₱11.8 million).

In the local releases, we've previously reported that Antoinette Jadaone's sports drama Sunshine has collected ₱47 million, likely putting it just behind My Love Will Make You Disappear as the highest-grossing local film of the year. Meanwhile, Fifth Solomon's romantic drama Lasting Moments has reportedly made ₱30 million in three weeks, according to PEP. That's a welcome surprise for the film starring Sue Ramirez and JM De Guzman.

As summer winds down in America, the local box office is expected to be jolted by Demon Slayer, which has been selling phenomenally over the past few weeks. It will be followed by The Conjuring: Last Rites and 100 Awit Para Kay Stella in September.

Other box office figures:
Nobody 2 - $31,360 (Total: $31,360)
Jurassic World: Rebirth - $23,288 (Total: $3,682,738)
