In 'Companion', come for the twist but stay for everything else | Movie Review

A billionaire's death sets off a chain of events for Iris and her friends during a weekend trip to his lakeside estate.

The twist itself is revealed early on in the movie, but the film doesn't dumb down its audience—everything already makes sense after the twist. What comes after is much more interesting and thrilling.

Here, we’re treated to questions about what it means to be human, taking control, and even the consequences of some advancements in today’s society. These themes are explored in a thriller that’s also surprisingly funny. There are moments when its momentum stalls due to exposition or pay-off setups, but it all works out by the end.

The incredible Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets, Heretic) adds this to her already impressive career portfolio, while Jack Quaid plays this type of character so well. Lukas Gage and Harvey Guillen also deliver solid performances. A solid thriller with biting commentary, Companion is the first must-see original film of 2025. 3.5/5 ⭐
