One can already sense how it will all wrap up. The villain has clearly done something sinister to deserve revenge. Essentially, you’ve seen this before, yet Uninvited remains an engrossing thriller, thanks to the talented people behind the film. It’s deliciously disgusting.

Its non-linear structure successfully builds anticipation for the end. While it doesn’t all come together, it does in the areas that truly matter—particularly in justifying what’s about to happen. Gabby Padilla also proves she is a force to be reckoned with, commanding the screen even when paired with the likes of Aga Muhlach and Vilma Santos.

Speaking of the veterans, Muhlach steals the show as the billionaire Guilly. He’s designed to be hated, and he plays the part so well that even his dancing will get under your skin. Despite her limited role, the film uses Nadine Lustre effectively. The entire cast feels convincing, as though they truly belong in this world.

Then, Vilma Santos goes for the kill, and the film successfully pays off. The final scenes capture her character perfectly, which makes those moments resonate. After all, she is not one of them.

It also helps that the film feels carefully crafted, with attention to production details that really add value. The story is grounded in some of the broken systems that exist in the country, making it feel all the more real. Most importantly, the film takes the time to focus on the story of the victims, rather than merely indulging us with the offenders. With that, Uninvited is a genuinely must-see, solid revenge thriller. 3.5/5 ⭐

Uninvited is now showing in cinemas.
