Himala. (C) Star Cinema (remastered) |
Misguided faith can be a very dangerous thing and 'Himala' not only knows this but delves in it quite deeply. If asked what Filipino film can encapsulate both the previous and current reality in the country, one can still go back to the 80s and pick this film. Ishmael Bernal's drama starring Nora Aunor is a timeless masterpiece that manages to paint a community in search of hope yet plagued by hindrances. I'm also genuinely surprised how gripping it is the entire time. And Aunor's iconic line will make you be converted in her acting prowess, Bernal's direction, and the potential of Philippine cinema. Indeed, it's in us. 4.5/5 ⭐️
Himala is now streaming on YouTube and Netflix Philippines. We re-reviewed this film as part of the Philippine Film Industry Month (September).
