'Pee Mak' and '2 Valid IDs' continue to add more millions in week two

Tara Na.

Filipino films continue to perform well at the box office, led by Pee Mak and 2 Valid IDs. It seems everything is working in favor of the two films, as both are delivering strong performances in their second week.

Victor Villanueva’s Pee Mak has now grossed ₱80 million in twelve days after adding around ₱20 million on Saturday and Sunday. The horror comedy starring Wilbert Ross and Bea Binene actually improved on last week’s numbers, having grossed ₱40 million in its first seven days. What happened? Word-of-mouth is likely spreading to the general public. CBO recently described the film as “a non-stop fun time at the cinema.”

Word-of-mouth is also working in favor of Ma-an Asuncion-Dagñalan’s 2 Valid IDs. In twelve days, the Marietta Subong-led drama has grossed ₱50 million, suggesting a Saturday-Sunday gross in the high teens. That’s a fantastic jump compared with its opening week, a feat rarely seen in the local box office, with films such as Heneral Luna and Kita Kita serving as notable examples. The jump also coincides with viral posts about the film circulating on social media. Can it also reach the century mark? That will depend on how many screens it can retain in its third and fourth weeks. With this welcome second-week surprise jump, its chances look even better.

This article will be updated as more box-office figures are released.
