The adventure film based on the hit game has now passed over ₱150 million in the country, according to Warner Bros. Philippines distribution head Rico Gonzales. According to Gonzales, it is the fastest film this year to reach the milestone, outpacing the likes of Captain America: Brave New World and My Love Will Make You Disappear (in local market only). This marks another welcome hit for the industry ahead of the official summer season, which kicks off with Marvel's Thunderbolts*, Warner Bros.' Final Destination: Bloodlines, & Disney's Lilo & Stitch.
20th Century Studios' spy thriller The Amateur saw a fine opening this week with ₱6.2 million ($109,343). Its debut slightly edged out other recent adult-oriented titles such as Nosferatu ($103,362) and The Monkey ($97,320). Notably, the Rami Malek-led film carries a PG rating, unlike the aforementioned films, which were rated R-16.
Another thriller actually opened this week courtesy of Universal Pictures. Drop opened to ₱2.3 million ($40,711) in 95 locations, as listed by Box Office Mojo. Meanwhile, Snow White continues to decline, suffering another steep 75 percent drop. The live action adaptation added ₱1.35 million ($23,962) this week for a total of ₱90 million ($1,589,047). It now appears unlikely the film will reach the ₱100 million mark.
