'Dark Nuns' make an impression in the Philippines; 'A Real Pain' opens under 'Anora'

Viewers' Choice Philippines has reported that the  Song Hye-kyo-horror Dark Nuns tops the country's box office during its first few days playing in the country (January 29-February 2, 2025). Unfortunately, the distributor has not yet released the official figures for the South Korean movie.

Mufasa: The Lion King continues to rake in money in the country as it adds ₱3.3 million ($57,703) on its seventh weekend. It’s a testament to the strong Disney brand in the country that it has played well for many weeks. Add to this the lack of heavy competition currently in the marketplace. The Lion King prequel has now banked ₱177 million ($3,026,411).

In limited release, Jesse Eisenberg-directed feature A Real Pain opens to ₱468K ($7,990) in the country. The opening was lower than fellow Oscar nominee title Anora last week. However, the aforementioned film has generated more buzz than A Real Pain, which could account for its lower performance.

Speaking of Anora, the dramedy collects ₱229K ($3,967) on its second week (down 79 percent) for a total of ₱1.3 million ($22,608).  Meanwhile, Wicked adds ₱204K ($3,534) on its 11th week playing in the country. The hit adaptation has now banked almost ₱329 million ($5,682,807) in our market.

Moana 2 grosses ₱79K ($1,358) this week for a 10-week total of around ₱504 million ($8,604,218). Wolfman sees another heavy drop on its third week at 96 percent ($234). The horror has grossed ₱6.5 million ($113,825) in total in the Philippines.

Over at international markets, Box Office Mojo has updated its overseas numbers for And The Breadwinner Is... starring Vice Ganda. In Australia, during the week of Jan 23-26, the comedy has added $7,142 in 16 locations. In two weeks, the dramedy has already banked $55,629 in the market. New Zealand has also now contributed $22,711 for the film in two weeks.

Meanwhile, The Kingdom has also now grossed $13,297 in two weeks in United Arab Emirates.
