'Transformers One' tops Philippines box office with a modest debut

Opening in the same week as its U.S. release, 'Transformers One' also topped Philippine charts for the week of September 18-22, 2024.

The new animated feature opened to est. ₱24 million ($430K) in 216 theatres, per Box Office Mojo. While that is far from the debuts a Transformers film (usually above $2 million) usually does here, it has already surpassed the total box office gross of fellow Paramount animation Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem ($261K) last year. It also opened in line with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which opened to $449K but legged out to $1.5 million by the end of its run thanks to the Holiday season and buzz.

Similar to the United States, the film is banking on its received critics and audience reception to find longevity at the box office. However, it is clearly bound to become the lowest grossing Transformers movie in the country.

Fortunately, it has one more week to maximize its theater count before Joker: Folie à Deux takes over the screens on October 2. For a direct animation competition, The Wild Robot will premiere on October 9 in the country.

Near closing its run, Deadpool & Wolverine added $3K this week for a 9-week total of $7.789 million. Also closing its run is Alien Romulus which collected $1.7K this week for a grand total of $497K.
